Schools should try single sex groupings it and see who it helps without tooting it all over the place as the answer. Results, in terms of test scores and emotional output should be studied. Doctoral dissertations should be encouraged to examine it and survey research should be funded to see how much, if at all, it helps. Finally, the question must be asked if it is worth setting aside Title IX and possibly the culture altering woman's movement to do it? We need to know these things before we get too infatuated with separating boys and girls at school. .

The first issue of the Glasgow Advertiser, as The Herald was first known, published 225 years ago this weekend, is a fascinating document, showing how the city's fortunes were locked into those of North America, continental Europe and India. Trade with all three of these regions was vital to the city economy, but war and the rumour of war were depressing the markets. Famine across much of Scotland was not helping prospects either. But as the news unfolds - for it is placed in the paper in the order it was received - a new order emerges: Britain has concluded a peace with France and Spain, but its 13 American colonies have been lost. For Glasgow, this means the end of the Tobacco Lords, but a resumption of trade with the continent and the promise of trade - on far less fortunate terms - with the emerging country called America.
City council increases fees for Wakanda Waterpark
In unfinished business Monday night, Menomonie Parks and Recreation director Gary Barnett returned to the council to present three fee increase proposals for daily passes aimed at increasing revenues at the Wakanda Waterpark for the 2008 season.Owing to a decline in revenues, from a high of $143,169 in 2003 to $124,941 in 2007, the council suggested increasing the daily fee structure and expanding the season to offset the waterpark's operational expenses.No change was proposed for the seasonal passes. Barnett noted that daily admission fees had not been raised since 2001, while season passes were raised in 2004.Three choices .
